Early intervention
Schizophrenia Care Standard 30: In the early stages of schizophrenia an early intervention model of care is delivered.
Criterion
30a The care record shows that an early intervention model is followed and covers first episode and relapses.

Supporting material for standard 30:

Features of early intervention should be to:
- provide (youth-focused) service user- and family-centred care
- improve quality of life and self-esteem
- reduce stigma: an approach that encompasses the Scottish Recovery Network core principles
- reduce symptoms through a combination of low dose medication and/or a range of psychosocial interventions
- empower individuals and their families through education and involvement
- reduce impact of the psychosis and actively search for co-morbidity

Possible service targets:
- high rates of engagement
- decrease re-admission
- decrease use of the Mental Health Act
- decrease critical incidents
- increase recovery/ well being
